      Pasture Raised Chicken

      • All Pasture Raised Chickens will be aquired by the purchaser as slaughter ready live poultry. Coconut Grove Urban Farms is Able to Slaughter Them on Your Behalf Through our Alberta On Farm Slaughter Licence (License ID #7173). The purchaser acquires Live Slotter ready Chicken and then the Bird is Slaughtered and Processed on our Farmstead in a Humane and Food Safe Manner on the Customers Behalf. This is Done as Part of an Uninspected Operation as Per Section 11(d) of the Alberta Meat Inspection Regulation. The Meat is Considered Uninspected and is for Consumption by the Customer and their Immediate Household Only. The Meat Can Not be Sold or Further Distributed. Through this Slaughter Licence There is a per customer Limit of 150 Poultry Per Calender Year.

        If you Wish to Receive the Bird Live and Do the Slaughtering Yourself on your Own Property, Please Make a Note on the Order, Otherwise it will be Assumed that you want Coconut Grove Urban Farms to Process the Birds on Your Behalf.

      • We understand the price of chicken at the grocery store is no where near what we have to charge. Grocers largerly dont profit from the chicken they sell and under cut small producers to drive cost down. They under pay producers and they cycle continues, fueling abuse on all levels of the industrial food system. 

        Each Pasture Raised Chicken costs us on average $12.25 to raise here on the farmstead. This includes, feed costs, animal investment and supplimental heating during their early days. We want to be as transparent as possible, so reach out with any questions you may have.
